The Laurens Road Rail Line

Greenville County purchased the roughly 3.5 mile-stretch of rail line in 1999. It runs parallel to Laurens Road from Pleasantburg Drive to the CU-ICAR campus.
While located in Greenville city limits, it is a county line. Currently no longer in use, this line will serve as the backbone for the PRT.
The intent of the GCEDC Board and Advisors is to have a paved trail open for use by walkers/bicyclists/electric vehicle drivers by October 2015.
The first phase in creating the corridor is to clear the old railroad line for surveying and pre-engineering assessments. The corridor is not open for public use until all work is done and the routeway is completed.
